DESIGN I wanted to create a design instead of a photograph for this exhibit. I designed these card boxes for a game I love, Arkham Horror: the Card Game by Fantasy Flight Games. Here's a sampling of the first ones I have completed. I had a lot of fun playing with the Lovecraftian elements of the game, such as the tentacle from the game box.
PHOTOSHOP This project gave me an opportunity to use many different Photoshop techniques. The primary tool I explored was blending options for each layer. Using these options, I added stroke and inner shadow to the portraits. The part I like best is the tentacles, for which I used poster edges from the filter gallery. This reduced the realism and made it more whimsical. I also created a template from the first one I made so that I could easily create boxes for the other characters. In order to represent each character in terms of tonality, I put a curves adjustment layer on everything and customized it based on the character. I also played with proximity and contrast.
